Today’s World
The World Today
Wherever you look in the world today, you cannot help but sense stress, unhappiness, fear, and aggression.
Why is this, and when did it start?
Although there was a sense, and feeling, that something was not right in the lead up to Covid in early 2020, it seems that the Covid pandemic was the start and catalyst of the stresses and strains affecting the world that we see today.
We have seen in a very short period of time:
- Brexit. This caused a massive shock to the UK, the EU, and the world financial markets.
- The Covid pandemic. People were made to socially distance from others. Work places were closed. People had to wear masks, and were even forbidden to leave their home without a ‘valid” reason.
- Supply shortages as factories and businesses closed or went to part time production
- Labour shortages. Many workers did not return after the Covid restrictions were lifted.
- Inflation. Quantitative Easing and Central Bank support measures, where billions of dollars were printed out of thin air, have caused a massive jump in the rate of inflation in many countries
- The war in Ukraine. Apart from the sheer human misery caused by Putin’s barbaric invasion of a neighbouring country, this has exacerbated the energy crisis as the Western world finally woke up to the fact that they were dependent on Russian energy. Whilst trying to wean themselves off Russian energy, and at the same time convert to a green energy agenda, fuel and energy have become more scarce, and much more expensive.
- Food shortages. The Russian blockade and destruction of Ukrainian grain exports is having a huge impact in terms of price and shortages.
- In January 2021 the USA almost disintegrated into civil war following the attack by Trump supporters on Capitol Hill in Washington.
So is there any one thing underpinning these events?
Conspiracy theories abound, but there is one major event unfolding around us, and that is the struggle for world domination between the Western model of democracy which has been the world order up to this point, and those countries and regimes wanting to replace it with autocracy and dictatorship. History has shown that when a global power is in danger of being replaced by an up and coming power, there has always been conflict. The existing power will not want to relinquish the top position, whilst the usurper will strive to achieve supremacy. With that in mind, look at the tensions between the US and its allies, and China/Russia/Iran.
This conflict and stress has effectively caused the end of globalisation as we know it. Countries are now beginning to pull manufacturing back to their own country, and looking to secure their own sources of energy and commodities. Whilst very sensible when you look at how Russia has weaponised its energy supplies, and China now monopolises manufacturing, it further has a negative impact on prices, supplies, and prices.
You can see now why the world is suffering so much stress and angst. This has started to impact upon the lives of countless people. The Zeitgeist will help people navigate their way through these problems by raising awareness and offering guidance in order to survive and flourish during these difficult times.
