Mental Health / Spiritual Strength

In order to survive and strive in today’s world, it is important to have a belief system that keeps you grounded, especially when life looks bleak and dangerous.

There are countless religions and philosophies, what you as an individual choose is a matter of personal choice.

Religions and Philosophies

I personally have always been suspicious of religions that impose rules and regulations, and which carry threats of terrible punishments if you don’t follow the rules. That is because the priests are people, the same as you and me, and to suggest they have direct contact with their “God”, and can relay God’s message, is, in my view, ridiculous. I do believe that religion can, in the wrong hands, just be a tool for people to use to attain power and wealth.

This is not an attack on any religion, it is only encouraging you to question what you are being told. Ask yourself two simple questions when faced by someone who is telling you what to believe, and what will happen if you don’t. Question one-is what this person saying logical? If the answer is “no”, then walk away. Question two-is what this person saying morally right? If the answer is “no”, then walk away.

I sincerely believe that if you live your live by your actions being governed by what is logical and right, you will not go far wrong, and your soul or spirit will remain strong.

It gives me inner strength when I look up at the stars and realise we are all at one with the Universe.

At the Zeitgeist we encourage people to challenge the narrative and look at life, and death, from different angles.

The reality is that every single person on this planet does not know what came before, or what comes after. Consider this verse from the History of the Tao in China, written about 2,500 years ago

  • There was something formless yet complete
  • That existed before heaven and earth,
  • Without sound, without substance,
  • Dependent on nothing, unchanging,
  • All pervading, unfailing,
  • One may think of it as the mother,
  • Of all things under heaven,
  • Its true name I do not know;
  • “Tao” is the name I give it.
